my committee told me to remove voice-y stuff that might be deemed "unserious" by a hypothetical hiring committee but then did not actually give me a list of things to change and would you believe I don't have a good internal gauge of where my voice is too much because it is _my voice_

kill the imaginary hiring committee in your mind / also I know they mean well but wondering if they fully don't know that US higher ed is cooked and the odds of me getting a job in it (even with the most sanitized dissertation copy) are...not great

@ingrid hmm are they asking you to remove the voice for the committee that might hire them to a more prestigeous position based on the dissertations they have reviewed??
