Wild report on damaged sea cables connecting #Svalbard to the mainland. Svalbard hosts ground stations for space agencies e.g. #Copernicus #ESA #Sentinel 🛰️

https://www.nrk.no/tromsogfinnmark/this-is-what-the-damaged-svalbard-cable-looked-like-when-it-came-up-from-the-depths-1.16895904

What the report doesn't mention is this:

• Sentinel-1B power failure: 23 Dec 2021

• Svalbard cables damaged: 7 Jan 2022

From the Sentinel-1 Mission Status Report 391:

"major anomaly on the Sentinel-1B satellite occurred on 23 December 2021"

Lot's of coincidences here 🤔

The #Sentinel1 constellation has two satellites up: 1A and 1B. Sentinel-1B is no longer working since that anomaly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinel-1B

Sentinel-1 is a synthetic aperture radar constellation, allowing for radar remote sensing day and night no matter if there are clouds or not.
