Saw a rat moving real slowly and clumsily on the street outside a brownstone. I think it had been poisoned and I felt an obligation to hang out with it a little while as it died. What living thing wants to die alone? Eventually he crawled behind a trash can I guess for privacy and I started crying which is a little embarrassing.

@ingrid ecologically, aren't rats just squirrels with bad PR? If you'd done all of the above for a squirrel most people would think that the humane response surely?
