but why should GPS has greater "surveillance potential" than inertial navigation? It doesn't make sense except GPS tech is not fully understood.

@karussell GPS only, not that much, but tower triangulation privacy risk is super real, and wifi-based geolocation probably does too

@tmcw @karussell came to ask the same thing. GPS isn’t surveillance tech. TBH inertial navigation for consumer devices is really hard because tiny errors compound. But IIRC it is used in airplanes in some capacity. And motor vehicles have even better sensors than this: wheel rotation.

@ianthetechie @tmcw @karussell fair enough re: gps, I've been working on history of nav and routing technology in trucking industry so that's the context of the surveillance comment (ie: management), realize that's not totally clear
