CRAN’s problems (abusing contributors and suppressing dissent against unacceptable community norms) can’t be solved because there’s no money to pay for people’s time to set up an alternative, and Julia remains technically immature AND run by people who may as well be CRAN admins (https://danluu.com/julialang/). People don’t use Python for scientific computing because it’s better (it isn’t), they use it in spite of the often worse developer experience because they’re less likely to be gaslit or abused.

Sorry, I just can’t let this go: Imagine being a professor (emeritus) of arguably the best university in the world (it’s true, sorry America) and scolding people for legitimately complaining about abuse on a public mailing list, before scrubbing names under the pretense of a non-existent privacy law and “pressure from the university administration”. Folks, I’m funded by public money, and the idea that I would spend so much as a Euro of it contributing to this feudal nonsense is unthinkable.

@urschrei Mulder tosses a thick folder on Scully’s desk and flops into his chair – face neutral, perhaps faintly amused. “Heard of the eminent old man who acts like a public service is his personal hobby project?”
