@ingrid Interesting. I was at Bell Labs when they were working in Maps On Us, their early Mapquest competitor, but I’ve never seen this paper before. Outside that group, the focus always seemed to be on the wayfinding portion as the technical innovation.
@a oh cool! Did that product do tiling?
@ingrid I can’t swear to it, but the work was being done at Holmdel (where Potmesil was) and Murray Hill at the same time, and (at least at that time) Bell Labs was pretty decent about connecting research and product folks.
