Overhearing a fellow graduate student talk about how cool and smart and great my advisor is, she is 100% correct and it's very cute

Burning Man shitpost kind of

@jgarber I know people who don't make it their entire personality and don't want to shade them for doing it (look, I was a high school theater nerd, I get liking stupid self-important stuff) but yikes, the people who do make it their entire personality

Burning Man shitpost kind of

Honestly I like her a lot of the time but it was just the most naked cliche of a new Burner I've ever encountered irl and today was the anniversary of the day he got hit by the car so it's on my mind

Burning Man shitpost kind of

This time last year when my boyfriend got hit by a car his sister was at her first Burning Man and when she got back a few days later and visited us as he recovered from a concussion she asked him zero questions and just told us about her spiritual breakthrough while at Burning Man

Maybe learning about the "science wars" of the 1990s just feels weird because as a millennial I grew up with constant reminders of the socially constructed conditions of technical knowledge in the form of authority figures clearly pushing total horseshit? @inquiline yeah, I applied to two PhD programs based on people I wanted to work with and he was one of them (but American Studies is kind of a reach for my interests and it's much more competitive than the program I'm now in--no regrets)

@inquiline my context for him, for years, was "the guy with the great accent who lets us use classrooms at NYU and really hates student loan debt"

@Wolven Andrew was, I kid you not, the only other person I considered doing a PhD with

@inquiline Andrew Ross is, for the record, a really generous and kind person in all my dealings with him and I fully buy that he took a too-generous read on the text

TFW you're in a history of science methods class and you realize you know one of the Social Text editors involved in the Sokal hoax and even worse you know him from Occupy Wall Street
