Went to see a documentary about the organizing and resistance of a village in the Sanrizuka Struggle (nga.gov/calendar/film-programs) and it was a good reminder of what solidarity in struggle can look like. Have been feeling very atomized and alienated lately and it's good to remember this is a structural dynamic and other ways exist!!

happy new Mountain Goats album day to all who celebrate

Update: the person who inspired this tweet just announced on IG that he has a book deal for a book about...birds!! And suddenly it all makes sense.

Honestly I am probably being too cynical about this but one of the bummers of NYC hustle culture is the need to monetize hobbies

bringing my favorite coffee beans when I visit my mom because the costco brand dark roast she swears by tends to be too much for me, making my own little pour-overs is very bougie but also a little piece of home away from home

I am extremely overwhelmed with work and family stuff and I do not like it, I don't really want to die but living Like This is not sustainable and I'm not sure what to do

Staying with my mom while she recovers from surgery means seeing normal TV for the first time in ages and I nearly lost my entire mind seeing an Ozempic commercial, true eldritch horrors

I found of a "Video Professor" VHS tape digitized on YouTube. I edited it down, but this is EXACTLY how it was uploaded.

The original description said "I apologize the audio is choppy", and I… I think they sorely undersold that one

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Jealous of the tech guys who got so rich that now they just post about birds

Eating a breakfast sandwich in a strip mall while my mom is in surgery and wondering how they make the egg taste 3D printed

It would appear banana guy and the laboratory are two different guys called Cavendish my bad

Towards the end of this train ride my seatmate, an older guy, complimented my Nostromo hat and told me he used to have one himself but it got worn out. The couple in the row across, clearly richer than me and my seatmate, looked stricken with horror that in the final minutes of the ride someone dated violate the sanctity of the quiet car. Honestly hilarious

Who could have foreseen that banana guy also worked on standards in physics!!

Reading a paper about the invention of measurement standards in the 19th century and a lot of it takes place at the "Cavendish" lab and I keep getting distracted thinking about the standardizing of bananas instead

Heading to DC for the week because my mom broke her ankle and it needs surgery. Trying to remember the last time there wasn't some new urgent thing cropping up and interrupting whatever work is on my docket...March? Maybe March.

Heading home and there's a little dog in a bag next to me on the train so you know, things are bad but there's still some joy in this bleak world
