the soundtrack, honestly, it's got some sick needle drops

another apple shitpost

i'm more of a vision amateur (wears glasses)

academia gripe

look, getting a funded MA was pretty sweet and at this point if I want to try for a PhD somewhere else I will, but going into academia was always a means to the end of "getting paid to write and make cool shit", not the end in itself. mostly the bummer is I do really like my advisor and enjoy working with her!

academia gripe

my advisor told me she hoped I had plans to "decompress" tonight as I (mostly) wrapped up my stupid grant proposal and like, I am entirely certain that I'm not going to get this grant?? So instead of "decompressing" I think I am "looking for a job because there are no other avenues for funding my PhD so I'm dropping out" hahahaha

oh so *that’s* what betting on the next pandemic looks like.

apple shitpost

a great time to double down on headset technology that has consistently failed to obtain widespread adoption is definitely during a recession

everyone enraptured, watching an apple, the same apple, begging for crumbs

I am going to probably be posting about the BlackBerry movie a lot so I apologize in advance but did we all know that Glenn Howerton aka Dennis from It's Always Sunny went to JUILLIARD

there is a kind of skinny guy character actor who will always and forever have my heart, and I have simply made my peace with that

the Phoenix metro area limiting housing construction because of water supplies being reported without any mention of the giant new TSMC fab being built there annoys me on a visceral level

look I know it was just his last name but "Kelvin" sounds like MidJourney trying to draw a Kevin

making Ramsey watch the original Clone High so we can watch the reboot and man, that show is a very rich time capsule of 2002 vibes (a personal favorite reference: "say hello to the next Bubba Sparxxx")

Ryan Gosling was actually saying "Hegel" in all those memes, it's a common misunderstanding

Eating disorders, union busting

Hey, remember last week when it came out that NEDA was starting to use an AI chatbot to replace humans that provided advice to people with eating disorders?

Two things: First, they had to roll that back because (shock!) the bot was giving actively harmful advice, including directly encouraging disordered eating: https://www.vice.com/en/article/qjvk97/eating-disorder-helpline-disables-chatbot-for-harmful-responses-after-firing-human-staff

But… it gets worse: (1/2)

working on the methods section of this research grant and I know I can't keep this but 1) I laughed and 2) it's true, this has worked with students
